Novel Synopsis / Pitch
Give a 1-2 paragraph “elevator pitch” for your story: what is the central premise? If you are uncertain what details to include, imagine that you are writing the blurb on the back of a book cover. We should learn who the main character(s) (and their love interest for romance story), the inciting incident, and the main conflict of the story.
Basic World Setting
Please include 1-2 paragraphs describing the world in which the story takes place. For contemporary romance, simply give the real-world setting (e.g., High School) and the social context (e.g., “high society,” “university,” “underground crime world”).
Lead Character(s) Descriptions and Backstories:
Please include 1-2 paragraphs introducing the main character(s). This can be little to nothing, or a complex backstory, depending on your premise!
Primary Challenges/ Obstacles/ Life Goal(s) of the Protagonist(s)
Romance: List one primary reason why they cannot be together (at first) – the number-one obstacle to the leads being in a functional/successful/happy relationship. List three additional minor challenges for their relationship. Fantasy: List primary challenges/obstacles of the protagonist.
Planned Ending
In 1-2 sentences, describe how the story ends.
Outline for the first 10 chapters
One or two sentences to describe the major events that occur in the first 10 chapters (out of a 50-chapter story)
